Murray to Moyne

Heading off in to a brisk SSW wind, 10 riders left the Echuca boat ramp at 09.09 am on Saturday morning to participate in the 33rd Murray to Moyne fundraising ride in aid of raising money for the Echuca Hospital.

Riding as 2 groups of five to have representation on the road at all times, the 10 riders left together until the first stop at Kotta where team Azza riders continued on to Mitiamo and then handed over to team Raymond.

Georgie Riddington and Caz Smith did a magnificent job as the backup support vehicle, along with Roberta Hamilton and Sally Lewis, ensuring no one was left hungry or stranded.
Robin Lewis drove the bus and made sure each team of riders were ready for the changeover.

Stronger riders were Craig Riddington, Neil Thompson, Aaron McMaster, Mal McLeod, and Marcus D’Angri, with special mention to Dave Holmes and Craig Smith, for their amazing efforts. The ever reliable Ray Hamilton knocked up a heap of kms as per usual. and Russ Jeffries got stronger as the ride went on, along with the “old silver fox” Bruce Fleming who never missed his turns.

We arrived at Stawell at about 6.15 pm where the “Rapid Relief” team were handing out free meals, and once we had eaten we motored on to Hamilton via Halls Gap , dodging roo’s and wallabys’ the whole way.

Up again at 06.00 am ready to leave Hamilton by 07.09 am where we were greeted with the most beautiful tail wind for the 100 km trip to Port Fairy, via another stop at MacArthur on the way to fill our stomachs compliments CWA womens home cooked pancakes. We all rode in to Port Fairy right on 10.00 am.

Special mention to Robin and Sally Lewis for the organising of the weekend, and Craig Smith for the tops, and to all the 10 riders for doing it as a team.
